Chip veneers: as thin as clinically sensible
The thinner, the more demanding.
Chip veneers are small adhesive ceramic fragments for local form deficits. The thinner and more irregular they are, the higher the demands on planning and cementation. Existing evidence on ceramic partial veneers is promising but low; randomised clinical trials are not yet available.
Chip veneers are small, adhesively cemented ceramic elements – often the thinnest that is clinically sensible. They add only where form is missing: incisal edge, angle, local deficit. Less ceramic does not mean less demand: the thinner and more irregular the fragment, the tighter the tolerances for planning, fabrication, handling and cementation.

Even a small fragment must fit facial dynamics, lip line and desired effect: light edge, angle and surface carry expression. Standardised “off-the-shelf chips” contradict the philosophy.

They are among the thinnest sensible ceramic additions. “Thin” is not an end in itself: stability, transition and function set limits.
Can the machine do it alone?+
No. CAD/CAM supports reproducibility; artistic and clinical fine work remain indispensable. That is a quality standard, not a study guarantee.
